www.greenreunion2008 >Family History > Photos and Images Through the Years Below is a sketch of The Stone Castle home of Thomas Greene and descendants from 1660 to 1795 in Warwick, Rhode Island. On the sixth of April, 1635 John Greene, surgeon, emigrated from Salisbury, England. Embarked on the vessel James, a two hundred ton sailing ship with wife, Jane Tattersall and their six children, the seventh having died in England before sailing. They arrived in Boston on June third, 1635. They first settled in Salem, MA. John was associated with Roger Williams, who was instrumental in establishing the religious freedoms of this country. In 1643 John moved to Warwick and became prominent in public affairs. John Greene was born in 1590 and was buried in Warwick, RI, in 1659. His son, Thomas, bought this house, The Stone Castle, in 1660, from his brother in law, James Sweet. Many of the details of these first generations of the Greene Family can be found in The Green Reunion pamphlet prepared for the July 8, 1908 reunion in Newport. Click here for a downloadable PDF. |
